Following a number of conversations today regarding Stevie May’s goalscoring feats this season I hope that the following proves of interest.
With 15 Premiership goals so far this season Stevie May is fast chasing Paul Wright’s record, dating back to 1991/92, of 18 Premier League goals in one season for St Johnstone.
The following season ( 1992/93 ), Paul Wright netted 14 times.
Fran Sandaza also notched 14 goals during the 2011/12 campaign.
Next best is George O’Boyle with 10 in 1997/98 and Keigan Parker also with 10 in 2000/01.
Going further back, prior to the formation of the Premier League in 1975/76, the highest ever top level scorer is Jimmy Munro who hit 29 goals in 36 First Division matches during 1926/27.
Ten years later ( 1936/37 ) Andy McCall scored 28 times from 36 starts.
In more recent times Gordon Whitelaw got 19 goals from 34 games played in 1966/67 season and Henry Hall also hit 19 goals but in only 21 matches during 1968/69.
